Capturing the World of Male Burlesque Means Learning to Walk in Thigh High Boots
- VICE
Boy Story is a photographic project developed between 2009 and 2015, following an international network of male performers working across burlesque, cabaret, go-go dancing, and pornography.
Photographed in cities including Berlin, New York, Paris, London, and Copenhagen, the work focuses not on performance itself, but on what surrounds it. Backstage, in dressing rooms and temporary spaces, performers are seen in the process of constructing themselves. Applying make-up, assembling costumes, preparing to step into a version of themselves that cannot always exist in daylight.
Rather than documenting spectacle, the images attend to moments of transition. Identity here is not fixed, but made, tested, and performed.
The book brings together 105 black and white images across 214 pages.
Designed by LSD Studio, London, this hardback edition measures 29 × 29 cm and weighs 1.9 kg.
The first edition is limited to 1000 copies.
A limited number of copies from the original edition are available.
